Both paintings below capture one of my favorite aspects of Christmas! Can you figure out what that is? In both The Adoration of the Shepherds (of the baby Jesus) and Christmas Homecoming we see a newcomer being lovingly greeted. Whether I'm the one being greeted or the one doing the greeting, I love that Christmas is filled with moments of adoring the people in one's life.

This makes me think of the context of many works of art created during the Renaissance. They were still primarily funded by the church or state so they had explicit religious themes. But this is a good example of a implicit theme that is secular and timeless.
